Common Misconceptions about Teens and Invisalign

MYTH #1: “It costs more than braces”
It doesn’t - Invisalign Teen typically costs the same as traditional braces, and if you have orthodontic insurance, it may cover a portion of the fee. We offer in-house financing options at no interest to help make your treatment more affordable including discounts for those who pay in full upfront and for multiple family members receiving treatment. Our treatment coordinator will help find a comfortable payment plan that works with your family’s budget. We believe no patient should ever have to lose out on orthodontic treatment that will make a positive difference in their lives due to finance
MYTH #2: “It doesn't work as well as braces”
Not true. As long as teens wear their aligners 20-22 hours per day Invisalign is a highly effective and efficient treatment with results as good as you would get with braces. In our office, we treat teens with mild-to-severe cases of under bite, overbite, overcrowding and gaps between teeth. Many teens use Invisalign for their second phase of braces. Regardless of what is needed, an orthodontic specialist, such as Dr. DiGiovanni is capable of utilizing Invisalign’s 3D technology to its full potential to align your teeth.
MYTH #3: “It’s more difficult to keep up with”
NO MYTH HERE… it definitely is difficult. The removable aspect of Invisalign is challenging and if the aligners aren’t worn as prescribed they won’t work. Success with Invisalign is completely dependent on your teen’s cooperation. Is he/she committed to the responsibility that is required for success with Invisalign? Commitment to wear the aligners for a minimum of 20–22 hours per day, only removing them for eating, drinking, or brushing teeth is required for the entire treatment. This idea may not seem that daunting at first, but removing the aligners every time something is eaten, then cleaning their teeth and the aligners and putting them back in takes effort and organizational skills. However, for the right patient, Invisalign can be the perfect fit for your teen and their lifestyle. At your consultations, Dr. DiGiovanni will help you determine which treatment modality best suits your child’s individual needs. We look forward to guiding your smile transformation; it’s what we love!
