ICAT 3-Dimensional Imaging
The new advances in dental x-rays are impressive— especially that of the newly developed 3-D volumetric scan we use call ICAT. In some patients, we prescribe this state-of-the-art tool to provide us with extremely precise diagnostic information that aids us in more accurate treatment planning. With an ICAT image, we can evaluate every aspect of the face and jaws with completely distortion-free images (unlike older 2-dimensional x-rays). Since it is three dimensional we can move or rotate the x-ray allowing Dr. DiGiovanni to determine tooth position for more accurate diagnosis and more precise brace placement on your teeth so that you get the best result possible.
ICAT imaging is also useful in assessing:
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- Eliminates the need for impressions for molds of the teeth/ study models (and the cost)
- Position of unerupted teeth to aid in brace placement
- Space in the jaw for implants
- TMJ evaluation
- Jaw pathology
- Evaluation of the airway
- Position of impacted cuspids
The standard of care is changing. Patients expect their health care professionals to learn about and apply the most recent advances as they develop in their profession to achieve the best possible result. Dr. DiGiovanni takes pride in staying on the forefront of new technology in orthodontics and applying these advances to their patients.
